Iriomote Island: BBQ at YH

After having a good time in the sea or on the beach and having a nap, you must become hungry. When it is getting cooler outside after the sunset, have a BBQ with you mates. It is pretty easy to make friends in such a circumstance. There are not only Japanese but some oversea mates at the YH. Don't worry about the language barrier as they are very very friendly and surely you have a great time there. After couples of beers, you may start drinking local liqures, which is called "Awamori", around 30-40% alcohol, then some start singing Okinawan folk songs and dancing on the local musical instrument, called "Sanshin". Enjoy the local night life!

After the heat in the afternoon, you just sit on the grass in YH and watch beautiful sunset. What a relaxing time! After the sunset, you can enjoy the innumerable stars in the heavens.

Itiomote Is. : My favorite spot

When I visit Iriomote Is., I always stay at the same accommodation; Youth Hostel called Iruomote-sou. I like its big garden like the attached photo and its friendly staff and matesI meet there. From the garden, you can see a tiny white island which is made by coral carcass: Barasu Is. and a small green island: Hatoma Is. . Just sit and read a book at the spot. What a terrific time!

Iriomote Is. Coral Reef

Okinawa Pref., where Iriomote Is. belong to, has beautiful bule sea with massive colorful coral reef. Actually, the number of species of the coral in Okinawa is not less than the ones in Great Barrier Reef in Australia. You can find corals with beautiful fish just in shore of Iriomote Is.. There are some islands which made by carcass of coral, where you can enjoy snorkelling and scuva diving. So, enjoy the one of the most beautiful sea in the world there!

Iriomote Island: Kayakking in a jungle

It is wondeful experience to kayak in a jungle in Japan. Iriomote Is. is coverd by sub-tropical forests and many mangrove tree. You can kayak up to some water falls and on the way there you can land on mud lands and find very unique creatures, such as huge corbiculae and squillae, on the island. You must have unforgettable memory on the day.

Tropical islands in Japan

As this is my first blog page, I introduce my favorite place in Japan. That is Iriomote Island, Okinawa Pref.. The island is about 2000km to the Southwest from Tokyo. So, it is quite near Taiwan. I will show you several interesting aspects of the Island in terms of its culture and nature from today. Today is the beach. Unlike your image of Japanese sea, the water and the white sand are impressively beautiful. The degree of the water tranparency is one of the highest in the world. You just lay back and relax on the beach without any noise (like Thailand or Bali)!
